Jep's free class 10.23.09 - by Pat Miller
IMPORTANT--PLEASE NOTE: There is a fake email hitting Outlook/Outlook Express email . It is presented as an update (KB910721) from Microsoft. IF YOU OPEN IT, YOU ARE HIJACKED. Just delete it without opening. Remember, Microsoft does not send updates via email.
Windows 7 - Jep did a brief demo of Win7. Can't get a good grasp of it from this brief demo, but it was interesting. The visuals, such as folder look, have changed. Will be interesting to learn more. He did say that Win7 was good, but if you have XP, stay with it until you must change--we've got an excellent o/s in XP
(here is a short video on Win7 intro (short comercial) click here)
Windows Live Mail (WLM) - as Outlook and Outlook Express are going, WLM is what MS is offering for email. He said that when you buy Win7 in the store, you would not get WLM with that purchase. It can be downloaded for use with Win7 or XP. He thinks that when you purchase a computer with Win7, WLM will be included. I expect Jep will talk about this at our 10/28 class.

FAMOUS EXPLODING WHALE --- AGAIN ?
CLICK ON PICTURE TO GET LARGER VIEWMary Nulty
Today Sunday March 8, a deep water juvenile male Fin Whale washed up on the beach at Heceta Head Lighthouse. On Friday it was seen at the mouth of the Siuslaw River in Florence. Hatfield Marine Science Center and Oregon State University officials took samples to try to determine why the whale died. It is hoped that this 40 foot whale will wash back out to see Monday at a higher tide than today. The state park was closed to traffic this afternoon until further notice. There is parking on the west side of 101 just after the tunnel and bridge.

THE GREENTREES NEWS LETTER
Connie
Our Folder-In-Chief
We appreciate, & are usually aware of, the important work done by editors, contributors & our office staff in the process of publishing the Newsletter, but we may not think of another important group: the "Folders
Over 500 Newsletters are ready for distribution each month &, as you can see from the picture, that's many piles of paper. Our THANKS to all you "Folders." We appreciate your time & effort!
Each month (& many times on short notice) a group of volunteers shows up to collate the ads & fold each issue of the Newsletter. Many of the volunteers have been doing this work for years & they're still happy to participate (defying even the occasional pain of a paper cut).

The Qigong Class
The Qigong Class meets in the Rec Hall
Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
The professional instructor, Nancy Herzberg, described Qigong (pronounced as Chi-gong) as the cultivation of life energy. The students described it as a calming, tranquil hour of deep breathing and a way of achieving a balance of body flexibility and inner tranquillity (something we could all appreciate at this time of year with the busy holiday season fast approaching).
There is a $6 fee per class, but no long-term registration is required.

LINE DANCE CLASS

It's no longer just boot-scootin' & foot stompin'. Pat Wheeler teaches the classes and she selects music and dance steps that include many rhythms (fox trot, rhumba, tango, and waltz) which she downloads from various websites.
Line dancing is a wonderful way to enjoy exercising, and no partner is needed. Pat includes beginner and intermediate dances in class, so everyone can dance at a comfortable level to start and advance as they wish. No need for "western dress or boots," just comfortable shoes and clothing are all you need for this “exercise while enjoying it” program.

BRIDGE CLUB
The G.T. Bridge Club (no officers, no dues) is a group of people who play for their enjoyment and camaraderie. They meet in the Fireside Room each Wednesday from 12:30-3:00 p.m. If you know the game, come on by and play. If you want to learn Bridge, call Eileen at 997.3174.

The Club has been having 3 tables of players during the summer and would like to maintain or increase that number even though we're losing our '"birds."
Perhaps you've played Bridge in the past and would like to play now but are unsure of your ability. -- Have no fear, and come join us! Our players are friendly and patient and will be happy to help you brush up on your game or teach those who want to learn to play.
Doctors advise us that mental exercise is as important to our health as physical exercise, and Bridge is an interesting and enjoyable way to get that exercise.
